Does your feed icon really have to be that big?

I use a "big" icon in my blog, but is not the plain RSS icon. Is just because it's a funny icon. Before that I used the discreet simple orange button in a corner.
Now I'm happy with how it looks, I don't consider it a "bad design" thing. Is this a likeness matter or a design matter?

It's funny, Zim, 'cause the other day I stopped by your blog and saw that feed icon you've got in your sidebar and thought it was hilarious. It's definitely well-done, unique, and I wouldn't say it's too big at all.

However, when you've got one of those giant feed icons in your sidebar like the one above, it almost seems like you're desperate for subscriber attention or something. And I feel like it throws off the balance of a design, since vistors' eyes are directed right to the icon instead of the content.

But that's just me.
