One year ago today, I took my last big gulp of pop (or soda, if you prefer) and then decided that my New Year's Resolution would be to stop drinking pop for a year. With the exception of a brief encounter with some Ting back in March, I can officially report today that I have made it a full year without drinking any pop. As someone who has literally referred to Code Red Mountain Dew as the "elixir of the gods" in the past, I view this as quite a personal accomplishment. I find it perhaps even more impressive that I managed to see a New Year's Resolution through to completion -- something I wasn't sure was actually possible.

Believe it or not, after the clock strikes midnight tonight, I have no intentions of returning to my pop-guzzling ways of the past, so the resolution may end up having an even bigger impact than I had originally hoped it would. But now I'm faced with the daunting proposition of deciding what my New Year's Resolution will be for 2009. 2008's will be a tough act to follow, I fear.

What about you? Have you accomplished yourself or known someone else who accomplished the oft-fabled successful New Year's Resolution?

Oh, and happy New Year!

That is quite an accomplishment. I remember many people in basic training finally getting their first chance to drink pop/soda in weeks, and they drank it so fast they became sick (and in some cases vomited).

For 2008, I didn't really create much of a resolution. I had some ideas in my head but nothing concrete. This year, I'm going to put substance to those ideas and create a resolution list (things like "complete at least 50 more sketches").

Good luck with those resolutions, Ian. I'm looking forward to seeing at least some of those 50 sketches on your blog!

I can't believe that man! I recollect the good-old-days when a Mountain Dew two liter and Pizza Time pizza was a standard bi-weekly event. Hats off to you! It will certainly save you teeth in the long run. I just realized the other day I had not eaten meat in twelve years or so. Crazy.
