Education
Bernie Zimmermann was born in Puyallup, Washington, in 1979. He graduated from Governor John R. Rogers High School in 1998 and went on to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. At PLU, Bernie was a member of the renowned Choir of the West and worked for the Web Development team for four years. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics in May of 2002.
Career
In the summer of 2001, Bernie worked as a web development intern for Interwrx, a Mesa, Arizona-based Internet service provider. In the fall of 2002, he was hired as a software developer by a (then) startup company in the Kirkland/Bellevue area that specializes in speech-related technologies. He remains employed there to this day.
In addition to his full-time job as a software developer, Bernie has continued to design and develop websites as a contractor and as part of his co-founding of Trilute. His personal and professional websites have been visited by literally millions of web users over the course of the past decade.
Technology
Through a combination of his experience as a web designer and developer, a software developer, and a technophile in general, Bernie has become skilled in technologies including, but not limited to, HTML, XHTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, ASP (legacy and .NET), ColdFusion, Perl, XML, XSL, XPath, Visual Basic, Java, C#, C and C++. He has extensive experience on all Windows operating systems and the Linux operating system.
Personal
In addition to singing in PLU's Choir of the West, Bernie has been involved in music for the majority of his life. He began singing in choirs at the age of 11 and started a band at the age of 14. Since then, he has travelled both nationally and internationally in different choirs and has released several albums as part of the band Pleasure Unit. His musical taste varies broadly from artists like Johnny Cash to Pearl Jam to Nine Inch Nails to Snoop Dogg to Coldplay.
Bernie is madly in love with his fiancée, Katie, and they live together in a house on the south side of Seattle with a small dog and two cats. In his spare time, Bernie writes poetry, plays his guitars, dabbles in photography, spends time with his brother, or jots his thoughts down here at his blog.
