I've been tinkering around with libxml2 a bit, as I'm interested in using the popular XML toolkit to evaluate XML documents using XPath.

One of the things I noticed almost immediately when searching for resources online is that there really isn't a lot of evidence of people using the libxml2 library for XPath-related operations. A Google search for libxml2 and xpath only returns about 16,000 results (which relatively speaking, doesn't feel like a lot). Most of those results are Python-related. Omitting any results from the Google search that contain the word "python" cuts the original result list in half.

I'm guessing, based on these findings, that most people who are using XPath and libxml2 are doing it indirectly through programming languages like Python, Perl, and once version 5 reaches widespread use, PHP. I'm sure there are quite a few people out there using the actual libxml2 library in their c/c++ applications, but it's just a shame there isn't much proof. Once I get my feet wet, I'll be sure to share my experiences here so that anyone searching for information in the future will find something at least somewhat useful.
