Whereas just a few days ago my blog was getting several hits per hour, I am back to getting several hits per minute thanks to a recent update at the Mozilla Update site. Those people who were part of the mad rush to download Firefox 1.0PR are now able to see my port of the GrayModern theme when they visit the Mozilla Update site. In fact, the theme is currently listed as the top rated theme on the site. Those ratings should be taken with a grain of salt, though, as people are able to (and more often than not do) post the same review/rating several times. It's certainly nice to see the theme gaining in popularity though, and I appreciate each and every download (approaching 1300 at Mozilla Update at the time of posting).

If you are visiting here from that site, and there's a good chance you are, please be sure to either comment on this entry or to leave comments in the GrayModern thread at MozillaZine and let me know what you think. If you have suggestions in terms of what changes should be high priority or you have noticed an annoying bug that you think should be fixed, the only way to make yourself heard is to let me know here or there. Comments at Mozilla Update are useful for letting potential downloaders know why they should or should not try the theme, but not necessarily for letting me know what should be done in future releases.

As always, more information about the GrayModern theme for Firefox is available via my Projects page.

Although i agree with you that comments can't be taken for granted, same thing can be said about others. People do also post negative comments several times aswell. This can be said about every other theme.

since extra negative comments cancel out extra possitive ones, we can say we're even. So graymodern is the best theme on mozilla update period!

btw could you change the icon for 'new tab' and also improve the buttons(dialog boxes etc). I think the bookmark icon would look good if it was encircled like others.

thank you

err

improve the buttons(in dialog boxes etc).
it would also be nice if we had rounded addressbars

I was wondering why you decided to port the modern theme when there already was one (firefoxmodern) by Legoguy on the themes website. The only difference between the two is that yours is lighter grey and isn't as complete yet. I guess if you had it in different colours then that would be something different...

Negativeions, not that it really matters, but just to be clear...the Modern theme for Firefox (aka Firefoxmodern) was based off of my port of the GrayModern theme.

This theme is great stuff. =D

I'm sure you've already been asked, but any chance of a Thunderbird port in the future? =)

great theme! my only suggestion is to make the font used in the tabs smaller as its out of keeping with the rest of the design.

thanks again

I love using your theme. But there is no icon for the go button only text?

It's great...but I can't see "GO" button anymore....

To all those who have posted saying that they can't see the "Go" button anymore, I am aware of the problem and will put it high on my priority list of things to fix in version 0.7 of the theme. I'm not sure how the change happened, but I will certainly look into it.

Frankly, I'm surprised that anyone ever uses the "Go" button to begin with ;)

I have become somewhat of a Firefox evangelist as well. I use it on all of my machines at home, even have it installed on the 2003 Server to use for those 'just in case' browsing sessions. I have everybody in my family using it, and have gotten most of my friends and business colleagues using it as well. I carry the installer, a few choice extentions, and the GrayModern theme. Most of the people who I have installed Firefox for think that GrayModern is the default theme because it's the only one that I install for them. I like it for it's simplicity and ease of use. I also how the color for the address bar changes when connecting to an HTTPS secure site, you would be surprised how many skins don't support this. I don't really have any negative feedback, just keep up the good work!

What in the hell is the "Go" button??

Bernie Zimmermann on October 10, 2004 at 11:02 AM:

Dan, you know that pointless "Send" button that most instant messengers have? The one that requires you to take your hands off of the keyboard and move the mouse to it and click on it just to send your message (as opposed to just hitting the Enter key)? Well...yeah...Firefox has one of those too ;) It's called the "Go" button.

I didnt realize that I could add more buttons to my addressbar or whatever.... Thanks though! :-)

Love the theme. But where's my print button gone? When I load the theme, the print button disappears. It's not in 'customize toolbars' either. Wassappened?

oingo on October 11, 2004 at 6:28 AM:

Just fiddled and checked. The print button only works as a big icon, not as a small one. So no small print button icon. If you can fix this, your's is my new firefox theme!

Good job! But can you make the "Open New Tab Icon" to look more like the other icons? As you can see it is smaller than the other icons, and it is not gray in color. Thanks in advance!

when is the update coming? Also noticed that the Mail button needs changing. It looks nothing like a mail button should.

When I installed FF 1.0 PR with the GrayModern Theme I dont have a scroll bar in the Extension Menus or the Theme Menus Box.

Any ideas how I can fix this.

Thanks for any info:

Hey bernie, love grey morden. Just wondering if your gonna do something for Thunderbird?

Best FFtheme around. Just the small printer should appear and the e-mail-icon should be worked over (maybe the bookmarks-icon as well - but that's a matter of taste only, of course). And what about the thunderbird.... please!!!

thanks & cheers

The best theme ever. Have tried a lot of other themes but FF runs quicker and more stable with GrayModern. Hope for FF 1.0.1 upgrade.

many thanks

Mike B, I've heard elsewhere that the current version of GrayModern works fine with Firefox 1.0.1. You might try reinstalling it.
