I have released an incremental update to the GrayModern theme for Firefox today to coincide with the release of Firefox 1.0.
GrayModern 0.6.2 is available for download and should appear at Mozilla Update shortly.
As always, more information is available on my projects page and in the MozillaZine Theme Forum.

Hello,
thanks for the update.
Would appreciate if you implement the following features:
New bookmar icon and 'new tab' icon, they should have the similar style as the standard icons.
Goto-help-about, you can see how ugly the buttons(OK,credits) are. Perhaps the scrollbar should be improved aswell.
I'm not aware but does graymodern have its own icon for up navigation?
This is a little complicated, maybe impossible. Could you modify the back/forward buttons so that the triangular drop down would only appear if there are more than one pages.
thanks
Forgot to mention something, the animation in tabs when loading something isn't really good either.
The best theme right now is charamel, graymodern being second ofcourse. It however works with only preview release.

Thanks Bernie Zimmermann for the improvement of the FF UI.
Great theme, particularly for those still stuck with Win98, as I am. Your theme, coupled with Firefox, has occasioned a great leap forward for my browsing pleasure, therefore. I'm very grateful to you.
I've downloaded the latest release, and, wanting to know how to install it (since I ususally do this the easy way via the Mozilla Update pages), clicked on the "Install" link on the project's page. Ala, Texturizer seems to be down at the moment - that link just takes you to a directory on the server.
Any directions as to how to install your theme 'manually' would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
MAN!! THNX
I cant use firefox without your theme!!
great job ur doing
Martin, you can save the .jar file to your desktop (or any other folder) and then drag and drop it into the Themes window in Firefox (the one you get to by choosing Tools -> Themes from the menu). Give that a try and feel free to let me know if you're still having troubles.
Hey,
I was waiting for your update after I downloaded firefox 1.0! Great theme; I can't use any other theme except for this one.
Thanks for all your work. I really do appreciate it.
Wow, fantastic!
An easy-peasy installation, just as you described.
Sorry to come across as a gushing kid, but your GrayModern theme and the ease with which it can be installed make me smile. Along with thousands upon thousands of other admirers, I have no doubt.
Thanks very much Bernie!
Good work on updating GrayModern. I had been pulling my hair out waiting for a 1.0 compatible version to be available.
And yeah, I know it was only since yesterday.
Great theme.
Thanks
Thanks for the update, now I can uninstall all the other themes I downloaded yesterday, just one more thing, I know you've been helping in the firefoxmodern (not gray) theme but, when is it going to be released for Firefox 1.0?
Because the themes page at mozilla is still being slammed, I decided to D/L 6.2. this theme was awsome in FF 10PR. I am running Mac OSx 10.3.6 and FF 1.0. I can't drag and drop the jar file in the theme manager. Nothing happens at all. I get a error message in the Java console:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED) [nsIZipReader.open]" nsresult: "0x8052000b (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED)" location: "JS frame :: file:///Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/components/nsExtensionManager.js :: nsExtensionsDataSource__getThemeJARURL :: line 4128" data: no]
Source File: file:///Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/components/nsExtensionManager.js
Line: 4128
Is the problem a corrupted jar file or is the problem within Firefox or java implementation on OSX?
Thanks
Kenny
good work!... I was waiting in mozilla.org, but visiting your site was more useful...
Just one little thing... Using big icons, the icon for "open a new tab" is smaller as the others... I guess you now it...
Kenny, that sounds like a Mac-specific issue to me. I don't test my theme on Mac and therefore haven't verified that the drag-and-drop method works in that particular flavor of Firefox. There should be other methods by which you can install the theme, though. The theme installer at texturizer.net that I link to from my projects page is one example.
Graymodern in mozilla update is missing!!!
It's no longer listed Most Popular(2),Top Rated(1).
Did you change the name?Or did you get busted for copyright infringement? What happened?

Fear not, "someone." It's most likely missing when you view the site because you're using Firefox 1.0. The people to update the site haven't gotten around to posting my latest version, and since they use server side scripting to determine what version of Firefox you're running (so they only show you themes applicable to your particular build) you don't see it yet. Once they update my theme's listing (probably in the next day or two) you'll see it back in its old familiar place.
Bernie,
Just to reiterate from the postings above:
Firefox just isn't the same without GrayModern
I love this theme - my favorite color does happen to be gray, afterall...
Thank you very much
Thank you great B!
GrayModern is my favourite theme, but i found something strange, what happend only if my FFox 1.0 is skinned by your theme.
The bottom find toolbar looks very weird.

I use GrayModern 0.6.2 on FireFox 1.0 WinVersion.
Demeter
A, you need to download and install GrayModern 0.6.2 again. There was a brief period of time where the theme didn't have support for the recent FindBar changes in Firefox. It now does.
Bernie Thanks a lot! Everythings fine now!
Believe, i will never change your theme :-)
This theme is great! I love it!
Bernie, I was sad to see Gray Modern not on the Theme List after I installed FF 1.0. However, I came here. followed the directions, and I'm back up and running. This theme is the greatest! Thanks.
Thanks for updating this for 1.0, it is my favorite theme.
I just switched to Firefox after 1.0 final release. This is the best theme I found, and the one I want to use. It is much better than the default theme.
Thank you!
Report a bug(?):
(In Firefox 1.0 Final)
Tools -> Options -> Fonts & Colors
In the Fonts & Colors pop window, there are three drop-down lists for font size,
Numbers do not show in the first of them.
Thanks Again!
Me again. Look at my last post, please.
I think the reason is the first two drop-down lists are not wide enough to show a two digital number. I tried 9, it shows.
I am a newbee to Firefox, even I have bookmarked your site, but I still want to know an easier way to update it when give out a new release, since it still has not been listed on Mozilla's site.
Thanks again.
Zuowen, thanks for your feedback. The numbers show up fine for me, so my only guess is that maybe I set the font color to be the system colors instead of black, and maybe on your system you have the text color set to something that doesn't show up? Maybe you could verify this with me if you happen to read this.
As far as updates are concerned, you should be able to keep track of my theme at update.mozilla.org. The only problem is, the people who run that site are extremely slow in updating themes when you request that they do so, so that is why 0.6.2 isn't showing up there yet.
Needless to say, I can't wait until the u.m.o people turn updating over to the theme authors themselves, so we don't have to wait for this long process each and every time we update our themes.
The best theme avalible for Firefox! It's a pity, that it's still not avalible at Mozilla Update, and there is no Gray Modern Theme for Thunderbird.
Bug report:
Icons at the toolbar of the Help page are quit interesting...
can't find 6.2 as of 11/15. if I download from your site, how do I install?
thanks
Dan, see my comments up above on November 9th at a little after 10pm.
Bernie,
Please tell me why GrayModern 0.6.2, the most stylish theme in existence, doesn't work in Firefox under Mac OS X?
It used to, under FF 0.10 PR when it was called 0.6.2!
There are many other themes which FF update doesn't list as Mac OS X compatible, but they still work! (Pinball, SphereGnome, Walnut a.o.)
Would it be too much trouble to port your wonderful theme to us mac users again?
Best regards, macimp
Oh, I mean it worked when it was called 0.6.1.
Best regards, macimp
Well well well...! Finally got GrayModern 0.6.2 to work in Mac OS X by studying some of the advice you dispensed earlier to the mac users here:
1. I deleted the grayed-out GrayModern 0.6.2 from FF update and...
2. ...ctrl-clicked and copied your "Download GrayModern v0.6.2" link on the Projects page www.bernzilla.com/projects.php ...
3. ...then navigated to www.texturizer.net/firefox/themes/index.html ...
4. ...pasted the "Download GrayModern v0.6.2" (=www.finalstar.com/grayfox/graymodern0.6.2.jar) link into the box under "Remote URL" and clicked Install. (Local file method hasn't worked for me.)
5. Chose the theme in the Tools menu (Themes).
6. Clicked the "Use theme" button (weird looking in the default theme).
7. Restarted Firefox.
Wow! It works! Thanks for the best theme around!
Best regards, macimp
Great theme, one of the best looking out there. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't have buttons for all the buttons you get from the toolbar enhancement extension, it doesn't have a button for the calender extension, and the button for e-mail is the same as the one for "downloads" and looks nothing like an e-mail button. If you would add buttons that match the theme for "add bookmarks", "bookmarks", "text increase" ( as well as decrease and reset), calender, and e-mail it would be perfect.
0.6.2 doesn't work in Firefox 1.0 in windows ;/ Been waiting for the update since its the best theme I've seen so far ... hope you can fix it soon
Never mind... I had the old graymodern from 1.0PR and the update doesn't seem to work.. i had to uninstall and then install 0.6.2 ... now it works
thanks
it doesn't seem finished yet:
- the *supposed to be big* new tab button is as small
as the *small* one
- the Go button appears twice, even though the second
one is just plain text
Otherwise it would be perfect.
I love the Grey Modern theme but have one criticism of your mail icon for it. In graduate level human computer interface design class; it was stressed that icons look like the concept they are representing. It makes it much easier for someone to then know exactly which icon to click on. The mail icon and the history icon look almost if not exactly alike to me.
Finally!!! I've been waiting for this update. I was disappointed when I upgraded to Firfox 1.0 and found that this theme was not compatible. NOW IT IS !!!!
Thanks a million for this.
However, I found an oversight in the icons --- the History and Mail icons are identical and weirdly spaced (more towards the left instead of centered). Hope there is an update/fix for this coming.
Again, thanx.

If a user uses the Download Manager Tweak extension found on mozilla's update page. The icon you have set for Launch, the GO button does not fit on the tool bar correctly. A half box with G or o will appear instead of your full button. It's a small cosmetic fix but if you could fix it I would appreciate it. I enjoy using your theme with Firefox, keep up the good work.
Brian
Bernie,
thanks galore for your GrayModern Firefox theme! It's the best I know, and I'm addicted to it. This, though, makes it somewhat unpleasant to watch the Thunderbird flock about all naked and screaming colorful rudeness. I'd be delighted for it to grow some gray feathers someday. I'm asking too much here, but have you ever thought of engineering a Thunderbird GrayModern gene?
Til
Thanks!!
Good Theme!
Alas, just upgraded to Firefox 1.5 beta 1 - and am loving it. The only real downside is not having Gray Modern as a theme. It's been my favourite ever since it came out. Would be great to see it soon!
I really love the gray modern theme for firefox, and was very disappointed to see that it does not work in the new 1.5 release. Are you working on or will you be working on an updated version so that gray modern will work with firefox again? It is the single best firefox theme and there is no substitute. I hope it comes back soon.
Also, I would like to suggest that the go button be turned into an arrow. That would be very cool!
Thank you.
I agree I love the grey modern theme for firefox also. We need it 1.5 compatible!
Thanks
I also would love to see an update to the 'Gray Modern' theme, so that it works with Firefox 1.5. Keep up the good work, and hope to see that soon.
I never used another Theme, but now it's not compatible to Version 1.5 :(
Please, Please update this theme to work with 1.5
I Love this theme so much I might switch back to 1.0.7 if I can't get it to work in 1.5. Thank you so much for listening.
After exploring many different themes, I settled on Gray Modern years ago. Please have mercy on us and create a version compatible with 1.5.
Gray is the best, please upgrade for all people using it.Now I'm looking for a substitute but.............
Gray Modem is the only theme I've ever used for firefox now with the release of 1.5 one hopes it will be compatible with that version very soon.
please update this "Great" theme!
it can't work with 1.5!
I have to turn to others!
Help me!
Just want to follow in on the request for "Gray" in Firefox 1.5 It's such a brilliant and simple design and I can't wait to use it with this release.
GrayModern is an outstanding theme! Its subtlety is sheer genius. Web pages shine when caressed by the beauty of GM. It gives the focus to the browser content where it belongs. The horror(!) when I discovered that FF 1.5 is not compatible with GM. FF feels like a cold metal machine. No soul. Pancakes without the syrup. Peanut butter without the chocolate. Please please update this theme. May the gods shine on you in your efforts. Thanks!
please update, so the best theme will be compatible with ff 1.5 !!!
tia
GrayModern is by far the best theme in my opinion. I have postponed using Firefox 1.5 hoping that you will update the theme.
I too will add to the call for Gray Modern to be updated for 1.5!
Save me from iFox! Thamks!
I had netscape 7.1 and decided to get firefox 1.5, and then I found this , it would great if it would be updated for 1.5.
thanks
I'm a big fan of this theme and I've been using it for a long time - a very stylish theme.. Plz update for FF 1.5.
Another "me too"...
I used the old Mozilla gray modern, and the availability of your gray modern theme with FF was a major reason to change to FF.
Modifying the content.rdf file in the jar, I was able to activate it under FF 1.5, but things don't look rights and work right without deeper changes.
Berny FF 1.5... please!
GrayModern is still the best skin available now... so pleeeeeeeease... The world NEEDS 1.5 !
Thanks ;)
Uhoh Bernie, looks like your adoring fans are demanding more work!
Are there any plans for a Thunderbird version of Graymodern?
<hint>FF 2.0 released.</hint>
Such a wonderful theme.
Hopefully you are working on an update for Firefox 2.0? :-)
I'm glad you're still working on GrayModern. Other Mozilla ports havn't been updated in a long time.
Now, I would like to see the original bluish Mozilla navigation toolbar background reinstated--BlueModern, if you will, ;) rather than the beige.
