Tonight I did a Feedster search for britney firefox just to make sure my posts are still showing up in their index. Sure enough, Putting Things in Perspective showed up as the 2nd item in the results. That's good.

Then I noticed a link to the right of the results that said something about claiming your feed in order to get your own photo (meaning the little icon that shows up next to your particular search result). I thought it looked interesting, so I decided to investigate what the process entailed. While doing so, I came across one page that spit out a bunch of PHP errors at me, and eventually a control panel that was very, very confusing. Combine that with the fact that you have to post a blurb to your blog to verify that its yours and that very few (if any?) of the features in the control panel actually work yet, and you end up feeling like you've wasted quite a bit of time.

I see some promise here, and hope that the Feedster folks keep chippin' away at the feature and make it easier and more usable. For now though, take my advice: claiming your feed isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I checked out feedster once (I think it was after I read about it here). I saw that "claim your feed" link then too - it seems that it was a few months ago. I remember I didn't end up thinking it was worthwhile, although I don't recall seeing anything as bad as PHP errors... but maybe I just didn't get far enough into it...

I find Feedburner and Technorati both offer this service which is further ahead than Feedster. Coincidently Feedster is down...
