Back in August I mentioned some speculation about Internet Explorer 7 possibly showing up before Longhorn. Here we are half a year later and it sounds like this is a reality. had the story on the official announcement from Bill Gates, and that was followed-up by a posting on the IEBlog. Not long after, the news was being talked about by the likes of Neil Turner, Asa Dotzler, Ben Goodger and Dave Shea.

I contemplated adding my own thoughts to the fray, but what I said back in August still stands today. Competition will lead to good things for everyone. Can you imagine getting Firefox-like standards support in Internet Explorer? I can, and it's fun to think about.

This summer should be fun.
