One of the things that drives me nuts about Ricky Gervais, and probably the one thing that has made him so successful, is that he can't be imitated. I always find myself trying to reenact humorous scenes from The Office or Extras and every time I end up looking like a fool because I can't mimic Ricky Gervais. Sure, you can mimic his accent or repeat his lines, but trying to copy his mannerisms is almost always an exercise in futility.

Ricky Gervais as David Brent

There is something about Ricky Gervais that transcends the characters he plays in the aforementioned successful shows. A simple expression or, in the case of "The Office," at least, a quick glance at the camera is often enough to have viewers rolling on the floor. Combine that with the same kind of hapless characters that Larry David would create, and you've got yourself a lethal comedic combination.

If you've never seen "The Office" or "Extras" before, I highly recommend them. There aren't many comedies on television that can compete with those two, and Ricky Gervais alone is "worth the trip."

My god, you are so right, he is a genius. Number one comedian ever... and you're right when you say one glance at the camera is often enough to have viewers rolling on the floor.

Well done mate.

He is one of those guys that you want to throw a brick at, he is just so frustrating. I suppose that shows how good he is, you live the scenes with him, you are part of the show. All of the guys on The Office are great, but Ricky manages best to push the right buttons. He is brilliant.
