I made the big jump from Windows XP to Windows Vista tonight. One of my first orders of business was to copy over my Firefox (yes, I'm still using it) bookmarks from my DVD backup of my Windows XP settings. As it turns out, doing so wasn't quite as straightforward as I would have liked it to be. Whereas Firefox's bookmarks are stored here on Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\Bernzilla\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles\yadayada.default\bookmarks.html

On Windows Vista, they've actually been moved here:

C:\Users\Bernzilla\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\ Profiles\yadayada.default\bookmarks.html

So if you've recently made the switch and you're scratching your head, wondering where the bookmarks need to go, there you have it.

Maybe an easier method would be to use foxmarks or zinkmo.

Many thanks. I've spent the past hour searching for the location of the bookmarks in Vista. Thanks to you, no more searching is needed. :D

Thanks again!

Thanks for the information. I was just doing the switch from XP to Vista and was scratching my head over where the bookmarks go. Thanks Microsoft for making things easy!

I love you sooooo much.
For your next trick, can you show us how you set up your freakin' mail.

Personally, my favorite part of Vista is how much the drive search functions do not work in any useful way.

Thanks a lot for posting this, it was a breeze for me to set up my bookmarks in Vista.

What I havent been able to do is the modify the file folder display setting that is in XP to view hidden files and folders.

My thanks, it was difficult to find where the heck the bookmarks went to. Sigh, another annoying step in switching to vista...

ANOTHER OPTION:

You can import/export bookmarks.html between any OS by going to Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup.

You can import and export bookmarks.html without having to know the paths the bookmarks are stored.
