Three years ago today, I told a story of years past, spelling bees, photographic memories and crayons. Little did I know at that time that The Difference Between Gray and Grey would become the most popular blog post I ever wrote. Not only has the post been read by nearly 100,000 people (95,035 to be exact), it is far-and-away the most commented-on post here at Whereas posts like Gmail Giveaway (41 comments) and Ignorance Better Be Bliss (36 comments) have seen their fair share of reaction, thanks to a since-passed Gmail invite trend and a controversial election, respectively, The Difference Between Gray and Grey has received over 150 comments since it was originally posted on May 23, 2004.

Update: Actually, it just occurred to me that the post may actually have been viewed by over 100,000 people at this point. According to my Archives by Popularity, tracking of post views didn't start until August of 2004.

I did, in fact, just come here via your grey/gray commentary. Excellent. Thank you for doing the leg work!

I came here via that page too. I'm very grateful for your comment, it's cleared up something that I've wondered for many years. I'm from the UK, and I've always spelt it grey, but recently I've noticed the spelling changing to gray more and more, and finally wanted to check. You explanation was clear, precise, and exactly what I wanted to know! :D Thankyou.

(and congratulations for that spelling bee, all those years ago!)
