Radiohead's OK Computer turned 10 years old on Saturday (via Jason Kottke). It truly is a masterpiece.

Back in 1997, I believe I was compelled to buy the album due to the heavy rotation Karma Police was getting on the radio at the time. I remember listening to it over and over again while delivering pizzas for Godfather's Pizza. In fact, I remember one occasion in particular that I think will reside in my memory banks for as long as I live.

I had just finished delivering a pizza at a house somewhere in this neighborhood, and I was driving slowly down a residential street in my 1978 Caballero (informally known as "the Diablo"). "Karma Police" was blasting on my stereo, the sun was right at that setting phase where everything looks dull yet bright at the same time, and I kind of had this overwhelming feeling that life was good. There really wasn't any kind of rhyme or reason to it, but it was such a powerful feeling that I felt like it was something I wouldn't ever forget — and so far, I haven't.

Anyway, that's my OK Computer story for the night. It's still one of my favorite albums of all time, and there's something cool about the idea that I'll still be listening to it decades from now (if I should be so lucky), thinking back on that evening in that otherwise inconsequential neighborhood.
